Project Overview

SGS Fimko Ltd required an IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 waterproof test system for enclosure protection testing. The equipment needed to support controlled water spray and splash testing for products with different physical sizes.

For this project, KingPo supplied an IPX3/IPX4 oscillating tube tester configured with five tube radius options: R200, R400, R600, R800, and R1000 mm. Additional R200, R400, and R600 IPX3 tube items were also included according to the project order.

Compared with a fixed single-radius setup, a multi-radius oscillating tube configuration is more practical for laboratories handling different enclosure dimensions. It allows the laboratory to select a suitable arc size according to the product under test and the required IEC 60529 test arrangement.

The project also included documentation requirements, with a test report issued by an internationally recognized laboratory carrying the ILAC MRA mark.

Project Significance

IPX3 and IPX4 tests are commonly required for electrical and electronic products that may be exposed to spraying or splashing water during normal use. These tests are used for products such as household appliances, lighting products, outdoor electrical equipment, industrial control enclosures, and other devices requiring IP Code evaluation.

For a professional testing laboratory, the key requirement is not only having an oscillating tube tester, but having a test setup that can be adapted to different product sizes while maintaining defined test geometry and water flow conditions.

The delivered configuration addresses this practical laboratory requirement by combining IPX3/IPX4 test capability with multiple tube radii, a perforated support platform, water flow arrangement, and documentation support for equipment acceptance.

Customer Requirements

The project requirement was focused on a dedicated IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 test setup for professional laboratory use.

The system needed to support IPX3 spraying water testing and IPX4 splashing water testing. It also needed to provide multiple oscillating tube radius options for different enclosure sizes, rather than relying on only one fixed arc.

The customer also specified documentation requirements for equipment acceptance, including a test report issued by an internationally recognized laboratory with ILAC MRA mark.

For international delivery, the equipment also needed suitable packing and accessory completeness so that the laboratory could carry out setup and verification after receiving the system.

Delivered Configuration

The delivered IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 Tester was configured according to the project specification.

For IPX3 testing, the oscillating tube is used over 60° on either side of the vertical. For IPX4 testing, the oscillating tube is used over 180° on either side of the vertical. The specified water flow rate is 0.07 L/min per hole.

The supplied tube radius options included R200, R400, R600, R800, and R1000 mm. These tube radii allow the laboratory to select the appropriate oscillating arc according to product size and test arrangement.

The support for the enclosure is perforated and designed for sample placement during testing. The system configuration also includes water connection, control function, oscillating movement, accessory components, and packing suitable for international shipment.

Laboratory Use Context

In IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 testing, the test result depends on several setup conditions working together. The oscillating tube radius, spray hole condition, water flow rate, sample position, test duration, support table arrangement, and drainage condition all affect the repeatability of the test setup.

A laboratory handling different products may need to test small enclosures, medium-sized equipment, or larger products under the same IPX3/IPX4 standard framework. In these cases, having multiple tube radii gives the operator more flexibility when preparing the test arrangement.

The R200 to R1000 mm tube set supplied in this project supports this type of practical laboratory use. It helps the laboratory configure the test area according to the product under test while keeping the test method aligned with IEC 60529 requirements.

Engineering and Configuration Considerations

For this project, the main engineering focus was the complete test geometry. The oscillating movement alone is not sufficient for a reliable IPX3/IPX4 test setup.

The tube radius must match the sample size and test area. The spray holes must be properly arranged and checked. The water flow rate must be controlled according to the specified value. The sample support must allow water exposure without interfering with the test arrangement. Water supply and drainage also need to be considered for routine laboratory operation.

KingPo prepared the system according to these configuration factors and supplied the required tube radius set, support structure, water connection, accessories, and documentation support specified in the project.

Pre-Shipment Inspection and Delivery Preparation

Before shipment, KingPo checked the equipment configuration according to the project requirements.

The inspection focused on the oscillating tube structure, tube radius set, spray hole condition, water connection, perforated support platform, motion function, control system, accessories, and packing preparation.

For waterproof testing equipment, accessory completeness is especially important. Tube sets, connectors, clamps, support components, and water-related parts need to be checked before delivery so that the laboratory can proceed with installation, setup, and verification after receiving the equipment.

The system was prepared for international delivery according to the agreed packing requirement.

Delivery Outcome

The project resulted in the supply of a dedicated IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 oscillating tube test system for SGS Fimko Ltd in Finland.

The delivered configuration provides the laboratory with a practical setup for spraying and splashing water tests. The multiple tube radius options allow the system to be used with different enclosure sizes, while the defined oscillation angles and water flow rate support IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 test conditions.

The project also included the documentation requirement for a test report from an internationally recognized laboratory with ILAC MRA mark, supporting equipment acceptance and traceability needs for professional laboratory use.

The supplied equipment is intended to support laboratory testing and technical evaluation. It does not represent a certification result, product approval, or endorsement by any testing institution or standards organization.

Application Areas

The IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 Tester is suitable for ingress protection testing of electrical and electronic product enclosures, household appliances, lighting products, outdoor electrical products, industrial control equipment, power supply units, and other products requiring spraying or splashing water resistance evaluation.

It can be used by testing laboratories, certification-related organizations, manufacturers, and quality control departments that need to perform IPX3 and IPX4 tests according to IEC 60529.

Technical Notes

What is the IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 Tester used for?

The IEC 60529 IPX3/IPX4 Tester is used to evaluate the protection of enclosures against spraying water and splashing water. IPX3 uses a spray angle of 60° on either side of the vertical, while IPX4 uses 180° on either side of the vertical.

Why are different oscillating tube radii required?

Different tube radii are used to match different sample sizes and test arrangements. In this project, the specified radii included R200, R400, R600, R800, and R1000 mm, allowing the laboratory to select the suitable tube according to the product under test.

What is the specified water flow rate for the oscillating tube?

The specified flow rate is 0.07 L/min per hole. Flow control is important because the water delivery rate affects the consistency and repeatability of IPX3/IPX4 testing.

What should be checked before using an IPX3/IPX4 tester?

Before testing, the laboratory should check the selected tube radius, spray hole condition, water flow setting, oscillation angle, sample position, support table arrangement, water supply connection, and drainage condition.

What documentation was specified for this project?

The project specified a test report issued by an internationally recognized laboratory with ILAC MRA mark. This supports equipment documentation and acceptance requirements for professional laboratory use.

Can KingPo provide other IEC 60529 waterproof test equipment?

Yes. KingPo can provide IEC 60529 waterproof test equipment covering IPX1 to IPX8, including drip box, oscillating tube, spray nozzle, hose nozzle, immersion tank, pressure immersion equipment, and customized waterproof test systems.
