The system supports IPX1 dripping water testing with turntable rotation and IPX2 testing with four fixed 15° tilted positions. This configuration allows the laboratory to perform controlled dripping water tests according to different test arrangements.

For IPX3 and IPX4 testing, the equipment package included both an oscillating tube system and a handheld spray nozzle. The oscillating tube system supports IPX3 testing at 60° on either side of the vertical and IPX4 testing at 180° on either side of the vertical. The supplied tube radius options included 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1200 mm, with a flow rate of 0.07 L/min per hole. The spray nozzle was supplied with 121 holes of 0.5 mm, including one central hole, one inner circle of 12 holes, and four outer circles of 24 holes, together with an aluminium moving shield and brass nozzle.

For IPX5 and IPX6 water jet testing, the hose nozzle set included a 6.3 mm nozzle for IPX5 with a water flow rate of 12.5 L/min and a 12.5 mm nozzle for IPX6 with a water flow rate of 100 L/min. Pipe and hose clamps were included to support practical laboratory setup and connection.

Waterproof testing equipment setup including IPX8 pressure vessel, IPX3/IPX4 spray test area, and IPX5/IPX6 hose nozzle station.

The IPX7 water tank and control system were supplied for immersion testing. The water tank size was 650 × 600 × 1400 mm, with a big flow pump of 0–8 m³/h, a small flow pump of 0–3 m³/h, digital flow meter control, six-way stainless steel water supply, ceramic filtration, and three-phase 208V power supply.

For IPX8 testing, KingPo supplied pressure immersion test equipment with a chamber dimension of Φ800 × 1000 mm, a pressure range of 0.01–0.5 MPa, simulated water depth up to 50 meters, and a test time setting range of 0–999 minutes. This equipment supports pressure immersion testing for products requiring IPX8 evaluation according to defined test conditions.

Additional Safety and Laboratory Test Equipment

The project also included several instruments outside the IEC 60529 waterproof testing scope. These instruments were supplied as part of the same laboratory equipment package to support different safety and performance evaluation needs.

The hot winding resistance meter, model RC3002, was supplied for IEC 60335-1 related appliance safety testing. It supports resistance measurement from 0.500 Ω to 10000 Ω and was configured with 110V power supply.

The supply cord flexing test apparatus, model KP-8820, was supplied for repeated flexing durability testing of power supply cords. The ball pressure tester was supplied for material deformation testing related to IEC 62368-1 and IEC 60695-10-2 requirements.

A climatic chamber was also included in the package. The chamber has an inner size of 450 × 450 × 450 mm, stainless steel inner material, 3 kW power, a temperature range from room temperature to 300°C, temperature fluctuation of 1°C, sample turning speed of 11–12 r/min, ventilation volume of 8–20 times per hour, wind speed of 0.5–1.5 m/s, and 110V / 60Hz power supply.

The delivery further included selected IEC 60601 medical electrical equipment test fixtures, including an IEC 60601-2-3 Figure 201.102 test probe and an IEC 60601-1 Figure 33 body upper-carriage module.

Engineering and Configuration Considerations

For a multi-standard equipment package, the main engineering work is not only the supply of individual instruments, but also the confirmation of test configurations, accessories, power conditions, and practical laboratory use.

For the IEC 60529 equipment, KingPo prepared different water flow rates, nozzle sizes, tube radii, pump capacities, tank dimensions, pressure settings, water supply paths, and filtration components according to the test level. IPX1/IPX2 dripping tests, IPX3/IPX4 spray and splash tests, IPX5/IPX6 water jet tests, IPX7 immersion tests, and IPX8 pressure tests each require different mechanical and hydraulic configurations.

The project also required attention to North American laboratory power conditions. Several instruments were configured for 110V operation, while the IPX1–IPX8 control system and IPX7 water tank were configured according to three-phase 208V power requirements.

Pre-Shipment Inspection and Delivery Preparation

Before shipment, KingPo carried out equipment checks according to the project equipment list and standard-related configurations. The inspection covered the visible condition of the equipment, water tank and pipeline arrangement, pump and flow control components, oscillating tube accessories, spray nozzle and hose nozzle configuration, IPX8 pressure chamber configuration, electrical setup, accessory completeness, and packaging preparation for international delivery.

For laboratory equipment packages involving multiple instruments, accessory control is especially important. Nozzles, hoses, clamps, test fixtures, tubes, filters, power-related components, and supporting parts need to be checked before shipment so that the customer can carry out installation and laboratory setup more smoothly after receiving the equipment.

Project Delivery Value

This project supplied Eurofins E&E North America with a coordinated equipment package covering several common laboratory testing categories.

Safety and environmental testing equipment arranged in a laboratory, including climatic chamber, test fixture, and control unit.

The IEC 60529 waterproof testing system provides IPX1–IPX8 test coverage, from dripping water and spraying water to water jet, immersion, and pressure immersion test conditions. The additional instruments extend the laboratory equipment scope to appliance safety testing, material deformation testing, supply cord flexing, environmental testing, and selected IEC 60601 medical electrical equipment fixture applications.

For laboratories handling different electrical and electronic product categories, this type of combined equipment delivery is more practical than purchasing unrelated individual instruments. It helps form a more complete test setup based on actual standards, sample types, and laboratory workflow requirements.

The supplied equipment is intended to support laboratory testing and technical evaluation. It does not represent a certification result, product approval, or endorsement by any testing institution or standards organization.

Application Areas

The delivered equipment package can be used for IEC 60529 ingress protection testing, including IPX1/IPX2 dripping water tests, IPX3/IPX4 spraying and splashing water tests, IPX5/IPX6 water jet tests, IPX7 temporary immersion tests, and IPX8 pressure immersion tests.

The additional equipment supports appliance safety evaluation, supply cord flexing durability testing, material heat deformation testing, environmental and thermal testing, and selected medical electrical equipment test fixture applications. These applications are commonly required by testing laboratories working with electrical and electronic products, household appliances, medical electrical equipment, and other products requiring standard-based safety and performance evaluation.

Technical Notes

How should a laboratory configure an IEC 60529 IPX1–IPX8 waterproof test system?

A complete IEC 60529 waterproof test configuration normally depends on the required IP test levels, sample size, installation space, water supply conditions, flow control requirements, pressure requirements, and laboratory workflow. In this project, the supplied package covered drip testing, oscillating tube testing, spray nozzle testing, hose nozzle testing, water tank immersion testing, and pressure immersion testing.

Why were both oscillating tube and spray nozzle equipment included for IPX3/IPX4?

IPX3 and IPX4 testing may require different methods depending on the product size and test arrangement. Oscillating tubes are suitable for defined spray and splash test setups, while the spray nozzle provides a handheld test method. Supplying both methods gives the laboratory more flexibility when handling different product dimensions and test conditions.

What should be checked before IPX5/IPX6 water jet testing?

For IPX5/IPX6 water jet testing, the nozzle diameter, flow rate, hose connection, water supply capacity, distance to sample, and fixture stability should be checked before testing. In this project, the IPX5 nozzle was 6.3 mm with 12.5 L/min flow rate, while the IPX6 nozzle was 12.5 mm with 100 L/min flow rate.

What is important for IPX8 pressure immersion equipment?

For IPX8 pressure immersion testing, chamber size, pressure range, sealing condition, pressure control, test duration, sample placement, and safety protection are key items to confirm before use. The supplied IPX8 equipment was configured with a Φ800 × 1000 mm chamber, 0.01–0.5 MPa pressure range, and test time setting up to 999 minutes.

What information is required for a similar laboratory equipment package?

For a similar project, it is helpful to confirm the applicable standards, IP test levels, sample dimensions, test methods, laboratory layout, water supply, drainage conditions, pressure requirements, power supply, accessory list, and expected test workflow before equipment configuration.

Can KingPo supply similar multi-standard laboratory testing packages?
