Standards and Test Background
Disposable ECG electrodes are used with electrocardiographs and ECG monitoring equipment to acquire and transmit body-surface electrical signals. In ECG equipment applications, IEC 60601-related standards provide the safety and essential performance background for electrocardiographs and ECG monitoring equipment.
For disposable ECG electrodes themselves, YY/T 0196-2005 and ANSI/AAMI EC12 provide electrode-specific requirements and related electrical performance test methods. The KP-ECG100E focuses on disposable ECG electrode performance verification, including AC impedance, DC offset voltage, combined offset instability and internal noise, defibrillation overload recovery, and bias current tolerance.
The KP-ECG100E is not an ECG simulator, ECG machine analyzer, patient monitor tester or full IEC 60601 medical electrical safety tester. It is a dedicated electrical performance tester for disposable ECG electrodes used in ECG-related medical applications.

Testing Principle
The KP-ECG100E evaluates the electrical performance of disposable ECG electrodes through five integrated tests based on YY/T 0196-2005 and ANSI/AAMI EC12. These tests help verify whether the electrode can provide stable signal transmission, low offset voltage, acceptable noise performance, recovery after defibrillation overload, and long-term stability under bias current conditions.
The AC impedance test applies a 100 μA, 10 Hz sine-wave current to the electrode pair and calculates impedance from the resulting voltage response. This helps evaluate whether the electrode maintains suitable conductive performance for ECG signal acquisition.
The DC offset voltage test measures the unwanted DC potential generated by the electrode pair through a high-input-impedance measurement circuit. The combined offset instability and internal noise test further evaluates low-frequency drift and internal noise performance within the specified frequency response range of 0.01 Hz to 1 kHz.
The defibrillation overload recovery test applies a 200 V discharge through a 10 μF capacitor and monitors the electrode recovery voltage at 5 s, 15 s, 25 s and 35 s. This test checks whether the electrode can return to a stable electrical state after simulated defibrillation overload.
The bias current tolerance test applies a continuous 200 nA DC current for at least 8 hours and monitors voltage change over time. This helps evaluate the electrode’s long-duration stability under bias current exposure.
