Product Overview

Voltage and Frequency Control for Product Verification

The KINGPO Programmable AC Power Source provides clean and stable sine-wave AC output for product development, quality assurance, production-line testing and laboratory power supply.

It is used when a product cannot be tested reliably with direct mains power, or when the test requires controlled voltage and frequency conditions. Typical examples include 50Hz / 60Hz operation checks, export market voltage simulation, over-voltage / under-voltage tests and long-time product aging tests.

This product is not a VFD motor drive. It is a test power source for supplying the DUT with programmable AC output. It may also be described as an AC Variable Frequency Power Supply, Variable Frequency AC Power Supply or Programmable AC Source.

How to Select the Right Programmable AC Power Source

The correct model should be selected according to the DUT power requirement, output phase, startup current, voltage range, frequency range and test duration.

1 . Confirm the Output Phase

Use a single-phase model when the DUT operates from single-phase AC power. Choose a three-phase model when the DUT requires three-phase output, such as industrial equipment, motor-related products or three-phase power systems.

2 .Check Rated Power and Startup Current

The selected capacity should be higher than the DUT’s continuous operating power. Motors, compressors, transformers and switching power supplies may draw high startup or inrush current, so additional capacity margin should be considered.

3 .Confirm Voltage and Frequency Range

For export product testing, confirm the required voltage and frequency according to the target market. Common requirements include 50Hz / 60Hz operation and different rated voltage conditions. For 45–400Hz applications, confirm the applicable model or option before quotation.

4 .Confirm Test Duration and Installation Conditions

Short functional tests, production-line testing and long-time aging tests may require different capacity margins and cooling conditions. Installation space, ventilation, cabinet dimensions and remote communication requirements should also be checked before final selection.

Operating Concept and Protection Functions

Operating concept and protection functions of a programmable AC power source

The KINGPO programmable AC power source converts input AC power into stable programmable AC output through the following process:

AC Input → Rectifier → Filter → Power Inverter → Stable AC Output

Single-phase or three-phase mains input is converted to DC through the rectifier stage. The DC bus is smoothed by the filter, and the power inverter generates the required programmable AC output for the DUT.

Protection Function Purpose
IGBT over-temperature protection Helps protect the inverter module from excessive temperature
IGBT over-current protection Helps prevent abnormal current stress on power components
Transformer over-temperature protection Helps protect internal transformer components during high-load operation
Output over-current protection Helps prevent excessive output current during abnormal load conditions
Output overload protection Helps protect the unit when the load exceeds the configured capacity
Output short circuit protection Helps reduce risk during short-circuit or abnormal output events

Protection behavior may vary depending on model configuration and load condition.

Technical Inquiry & Expert Support

Selecting the right programmable AC power source depends on the DUT power, output phase, startup current, voltage range, frequency range and test duration. KINGPO can help confirm a suitable single-phase or three-phase configuration according to your test application.

To receive an accurate quotation, please provide:

  • DUT type and application
  • Required output phase: single-phase or three-phase
  • Rated load power
  • Startup current or inrush current, if available
  • Required voltage and frequency range
  • Test duration: functional test, production-line test or aging test
  • Load type: resistive, inductive, motor, compressor, transformer or switching power supply
  • RS232 / RS485 or other remote communication requirement
  • Installation space, ventilation and cooling conditions
  • Target market, DUT standard or internal QA procedure

KINGPO will review your load condition and test purpose before recommending the appropriate capacity, frequency range and configuration.

Test Basis and Power Configuration Support

The KINGPO Programmable AC Power Source is not limited to one specific IEC, UL or national standard. It is configured according to the power supply conditions required by the DUT standard, target market voltage/frequency requirements or the customer’s internal QA test procedure.

For export product testing, manufacturers often need to verify product operation under different AC power conditions, such as 50Hz / 60Hz operation, rated voltage variation, over-voltage / under-voltage simulation and long-time aging power supply. This programmable AC source helps provide repeatable voltage and frequency output for these test conditions.

Before quotation, KINGPO recommends confirming the applicable product standard, DUT type, rated power, startup current, required voltage range, frequency range, output phase and test duration. This helps select the correct single-phase or three-phase AC power source configuration for the intended test application.

FAQ

What is a programmable AC power source used for?
A programmable AC power source is used to provide controlled AC voltage and frequency to a device under test. It is commonly used for product development, export market verification, QA testing, production-line inspection, aging tests and over-voltage / under-voltage simulation when direct mains power is not stable or flexible enough.
Is this product the same as an AC variable frequency power supply?
Yes. KINGPO AC Variable Frequency Power Supply refers to a programmable AC power source that can provide adjustable voltage and frequency output for test applications. “Programmable AC Power Source” is usually the more common international term, while “AC Variable Frequency Power Supply” describes the same product function from a power conversion perspective.
How should I choose between a single-phase and three-phase model?
The output phase should match the power input requirement of the DUT. Single-phase models are suitable for many appliances, electronic products, chargers, office equipment and laboratory samples. Three-phase models are used for DUTs requiring three-phase power, such as larger motors, industrial equipment, compressors or three-phase power products.
How do I select the correct capacity?
Capacity should be selected according to the DUT rated power, load type, startup current and test duration. For resistive loads, selection is usually more direct. For motors, compressors, transformers and switching power supplies, additional capacity margin may be required because startup or inrush current can be much higher than normal operating current.
Can this AC power source simulate 50Hz and 60Hz power conditions?
Yes. The equipment can be used to provide controlled frequency output for 50Hz and 60Hz product testing. This is useful for manufacturers who need to verify product operation under different target market power conditions before shipment, internal approval or certification preparation.
Is 45–400Hz available for all models?
No. The frequency range depends on the selected model and configuration. According to the current catalog, AC11 models support 45.0–400Hz, while high-power models are listed as 45.0–65.0Hz with optional 45–400Hz. Please confirm the required frequency range before quotation.
Can it be used for motors, compressors or transformer loads?
Yes, but these loads require careful model selection. Motors, compressors and transformers may have high startup current or special load characteristics. Before selecting the model, please provide the rated power, startup current if available, required voltage, frequency and test duration so that the capacity margin can be reviewed.
Does the unit support remote control or automated test system integration?
RS232 / RS485 communication options are available depending on configuration. These interfaces can support remote control, telemetry, data exchange and monitoring of load electrical characteristics, which is useful for production-line stations or automated laboratory test systems.
Is this product a grid simulator?
It can be used for voltage and frequency simulation in product testing, but it should not be treated as a full advanced grid simulator unless specific functions are confirmed. Advanced functions such as regenerative operation, harmonic injection, grid fault simulation or power line disturbance testing should be checked separately before quotation.
What information should I provide before requesting a quotation?
Please provide the DUT type, rated power, startup current or inrush current, required output phase, voltage range, frequency range, test duration, load type, communication requirement and installation conditions. If the test is based on a specific product standard or internal QA procedure, please also share that information so KINGPO can recommend a suitable configuration.
