EU Universal Charger Directive Revision Directive (EU) 2022/2380, published Dec 7, 2022, supplements RED Article 3.3(a) to unify charging ports and reduce e-waste.
Scope Applies to 13 categories of portable devices: smartphones, tablets, cameras, earbuds, game consoles, speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, navigation devices, laptops, etc.
Implementation Mandatory from Dec 28, 2024 (extended to Apr 28, 2026 for some). All new devices entering the EU market after this date must use USB Type-C and comply with IEC 62680-1-2 (PD) & IEC 62680-1-3 (Type-C).
